Newable is part of a consortium delivering Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and Horizon 2020 Innovation support programmes (Key Account Management for the SME Instrument and Innovate 2 Succeed). The programmes are powered by European Commission and Innovate UK and aim at support ambitious businesses to grow, innovate and internationalise. Newable is now seeking a highly talented individual with strong expertise in innovation to join its team, delivering services to SMEs in London.

The main purpose of the job is to make a significant contribution to the competitiveness of ambitious, high-growth businesses in London by providing tailored business support under our EEN and H2020 services, which include key account management of SME Instrument awardees, delivery of bespoke support programmes aiming at enhancing SME clients’ innovation management capacity, and delivery of overall EEN business support services.

The ideal candidate would have a background in one or more innovation fields (e.g. access to finance, innovation life-cycle, business model/plan, market validation) and knowledge and experience in assisting SMEs, directors and managers overcome barriers to exploiting their ideas commercially. 

A team player approach and the ability to demonstrate empathy for entrepreneurial culture and to build effective relationships at Board level are crucial. You will be a confident networker and be able to build professional relationships with private sector business support providers at local level.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Identifying innovative businesses with the highest growth potential for commercialisation their ideas 
  • Deliver innovation mentoring and account management services, acting as a mentor to clients to support them in developing their own long term innovation strategy 
  • Use holistic analysis tools to diagnose and assess client needs and provide tailored support to address these needs
  • Assisting clients to prioritise issues and identify potential courses of action 
  • Provide advice on access to funding (securing grant funding), access to finance (raising investment), Intellectual Property, internationalisation, technology transfer and business strategy
  • Build awareness of our support programmes by organising and participating at events that increase take up of the service
  • Achieve individual targets and contribute to overall team KPIs and strategy.

To perform this role to our high standards, you must be customer-focused, an excellent communicator, analytical and innovative, with excellent planning and execution skills. The candidate should also be proactive, self-motivated and results-oriented.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Deal with enquiries for available business accommodation space within the portfolio and to collate and distribute any relevant details.
  • Where required to assist with the marketing of empty properties.
  • Assisting property management staff to manage Health & Safety, fire, risk and all other property related requirements.
  • Obtaining quotes for repairs and maintenance maintaining an approved contractor/supplier list with the necessary paperwork, liaising with service suppliers, utilities and tenants.
  • To carry out any other office or property management related duties as may be appropriate.

Newable is looking for an experienced and agile Senior Events Business Head to join the Trade and Innovation team, to help us build Newable’s Events Business.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious business leader and creative thinker to lead the delivery of high quality International Trade Live Marketing on behalf of DIT with the aim of finding new SME customers or adding value to the customer journey. We also want to develop and win new events business for internal and external customers and partners. 

We will look to the Head of Events to set a vision, devise a strategy, map out a plan and deliver it through building a team and working with the Trade and Innovation team to drive revenue growth and profitability.  

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Managing Director for Trade and Innovation, Executive Team, CEO and Marketing Director to build an integrated business development plan.
  • Leading, building and inspiring the Live Marketing team to achieve an exceptional program of high quality events to support the delivery of the DIT and other contracts.
  • Operating with an agreed annual budget, managing the income and expenditure within an agreed budget and at all times achieving best value for money for public funds.
  • Managing third party delivery contractors who may be employed from time to time to manage fluctuations in demand.
  • Bidding for and manage new projects which may be advertised periodically and ensure compliance with agreed standards.
  • Building strong, trusting, working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Building a successful team by driving up the team’s capability to match service.
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise through cross-functional collaboration and co-ordination.
  • Be an ambitious business leader and creative thinker. 

 Required skills, qualities and experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of Live Marketing developing and changing ecosystem with excellent connections and access to creative, technical and production talent. 
  • An experienced events professional; preferably with exposure to professional services and B2B events including webinars, Meet the Buyers, Trade Shows/Missions, Conferences.
  • Strategic and analytical skills – harnessing ideas and opportunities to achieve goals and the ability to follow and develop a brief and identify requirements and solutions.
  • Experience of setting up and establishing an Events team, being a self-starter with the purpose-driven attitude to succeed.
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant achievements in career to date, especially business development.  
  • Commercial acumen and initiative – to be willing and to have the ability to create, to identify and seize commercial opportunities.
  • A strong leader and inspiring team manager, both directly and through matrices.
  • A positive role model to promote and embrace our values and culture. 

Initial interviews are to take place week commencing 15th May 2017.

The place of work will be our new head office in the Barbican area.
