The Times recently published an article on the Government’s Help to Grow: Management scheme, highlighting the significant milestone of over 10,000 small business leaders signing up. This government-subsidised management training scheme aims to improve productivity among small businesses. Newable is proud to be the delivery partner on the Help to Grow scheme, with our teams supporting the coordination mentor-mentee matching.

Over 10,635 people have enrolled in the Help to Grow course, with 7,860 completing it. The scheme is 90% subsidised by the government, costing the Treasury £53 million over the past three years. Initially, the goal was to train 30,000 small business leaders by April 2024. Although the completion rate has slowed, the programme has received positive feedback, with 91% of participants recommending it.

The scheme has been extended until March 2026, with the Treasury highlighting its continued support for businesses and entrepreneurs. An assessment in 2021 projected a return of £2.30 for every £1 invested. The 12-week course includes 50 hours of teaching and 10 hours of mentoring, provided by over 60 business schools. The programme also offers events and alumni activities to help build networks.

Participants have reported improved leadership and management skills, with 62% noting increased revenues. The programme has been praised for making a real difference in the business community.
