Giving back is core to our corporate DNA. One of our key ESG objectives is ‘Positively impacting our communities’ and one of the most significant ways we do this is by raising funds and giving back to charities.
Our fundraising efforts are diverse and inclusive, featuring events, campaigns, and activities that aim to not only engage our employees but also our clients, partners, and the community at large. Our employees can choose the charity or initiative they would like to support and Newable provides match-funding to double their fundraising efforts. This means that our people can contribute towards a cause they truly believe in. By allowing our employees to choose, we support a range of charities, from local community organisations to national and international non-profits.
Rowing for AHOY
In addition, we also organise corporate volunteering initiatives to highlight charities that we believe need additional support. One such charity is AHOY, a charity who helps vulnerable and disabled young people with valuable life skills, such as rowing. On 9th October 2023, twelve Newable colleagues raced against other companies to be crowned the winner of the Meridian Pull Challenge, in aid of AHOY. AHOY is a charity helping disadvantaged young people, at risk vulnerable youth and disabled people. They use the medium of rowing, sailing and water-based activities to break down social barriers and innovative training as a route into employment. The money received through the Oarsome Challenges provides vital funding for AHOY that enables the charity to deliver lifechanging training, courses and programmes.
Having completed a 3-hour training session on the water, the team rowed 8.5 miles, starting from Woolwich Pier, passing through the Thames Barrier, and rowing past the O2 Arena with the finish at the AHOY Centre in Greenwich. In a bid to raise £5000 in just one month, the team set up a Grand Raffle with prizes kindly donated by Newable, such as a Fortnum and Mason hamper, John Lewis Gift Card and other exciting treats. The team also set up a “cake and donate” day in August where the rowers all baked delicious homemade cakes for Newable colleagues, where staff were invited to donate whilst taking a cake!
We were thrilled to have raised and donated £5000 in aid of AHOY charity. We are thankful for all that participated in the boat race and those who contributed to our fundraising efforts and we look forward to supporting more charities in FY25 and beyond.
