Olayemi Jewellery, a London-based company, was founded by Jessica, a self-taught jeweller with a strong passion for jewellery and art. Inspired by her African heritage, Jessica crafts unique and contemporary African jewellery, all made by hand.
Before joining the Global London Programme, Olayemi Jewellery faced several challenges. Establishing the brand and its voice, communicating effectively with customers, and needing support with marketing, social media, and SEO were among the obstacles. Additionally, Jessica lacked a network of other business owners to relate to.
Jessica’s engagement with the Global London Team began in May 2023, involving direct contact with a business adviser.
The Global London Programme provided one-on-one support, workshops, webinars, networking sessions, and a trade mission to Paris. Jessica comments “the support provided me with a lot of motivation to push the business forward and given me clarity of the direction I want to take the business. Speaking to the jewellery showrooms in Paris really helped with my confidence in my brand and products and has shown me there is a real gap for my designs. The trade mission gave me the opportunity to have real in market experience, speaking with showroom owners, asking for advice and seeing how they operate. The trade mission really did help me to get real insights into retail and wholesale overseas.”
Since receiving support from the Global London Programme, Jessica has made significant changes to Olayemi Jewellery. She now has a more detailed plan for her business, has revamped her branding and marketing strategy, and knows what changes she needs to make to her product collection. These changes were informed by the research she conducted during the Paris trade mission.
